Facebook-owned photo-sharing platform Instagram is now expanding its live-streaming features. Now, it will allow a maximum of four people to go live on a single split-screen. With this function, people can now opt out of their small Zooms or camera-ready Clubhouse discussion. Instead, they can use Instagram Live Rooms to do discussions in real-time.
According to Vishal Shah, the major question that they always get from Instagram users is that how they can bring in more than one person during a live broadcast. Notably, Shah is the Head of Product for Instagram.
During the global pandemic, live streaming on Instagram with another user significantly increased in popularity. This feature was first launched in 2017 and became one of the most used functionalities of Instagram. Versus, a live music series used Instagram Live at the beginning of the pandemic. It aims to fill the void for music performers such as Erykah Badu and Jill Scott through the “Live with” feature.
In addition, the pandemic made people think of a way to connect with their friends and family virtually. They used Instagram Live to do virtual hangouts. On the other hand, artists and content creators utilized this feature to do collaborations and celebrity interviews. Whenever two individuals go live on Instagram, both of their followers will receive a notification. As a result, they can expand their reach.
Moreover, purchasing real Followers on Instagram has already rolled out Instagram Live Rooms in Indonesia and India. According to Shah, these four-person rooms in the said countries included makeup tutorials, discussions about plant care, and various content from different types of creators.
The said feature has also already rolled out across the world. It also has the Instagram Live monetization features, such as paid badges and fundraisers to charities.
There will also be a moderation and privacy feature. So, anyone who was blocked by any of the four people on the live broadcast will not be able to view the stream.
Instagram’s move to expand Live to more people has made the platform similar to a group talk show or panel discussion. Such is a format that is widely popular on the audio chatroom app called Clubhouse.
In addition, Twitter and Facebook are also planning to create their own versions of the audio chatroom. To do this, Twitter launched Spaces. On the other hand, Facebook is reportedly creating its own feature now. But of course, live video is a lot different from audio-only. One of the reasons why Clubhouse is so popular is that users do not have to be camera-ready to join a discussion. In addition, you can listen in the background like it is a podcast. However, it can be difficult to tell when you should speak when you do not have the visual cues in the faces of those that you are talking to. For this reason, Clubhouse chats are a river of “oh, sorry, go ahead” and other apologies for interrupting one another.
After a year of limited physical contact with other people, everyone has already gotten used to group video chats. For this reason, Live Rooms already seem like a natural extension. Fortunately, Shah announced that they would add one key feature to Live Rooms — the mute button.
Now that you already know what Live Rooms are, then you can already proceed to learn how you can use the feature creatively.
Instagram Live Rooms are a perfect tool fr hosting Q&As and panel discussions. You can also use this feature for webinars, so you will not need to send your audience to another hosting site.
You can also create recurring monthly chats where you can interact with new guests. In addition, you can use Live Rooms to run week-long panel discussions that revolve around different topics
One of the major things that brands can do to promote their products is by using video content. According to a Wyzowl study, 84 percent of individuals had decided to purchase a product or avail of service when they watched a brand’s video.
For that reason, Instagram Live Rooms are an excellent way to show your target audience how your products work. It can be in the form of a collaboration with a creator who can discuss how your product works or a tutorial led by your product team.
And since Instagram also has a Live Shopping feature, your viewers will be able to buy featured products during a live broadcast. This creates a seamless way for both brands and creators to make sales within the app.
At the beginning of the pandemic, live performances were very popular on Instagram Live. There was a record-breaking Verzuz battle, mini gigs like Chris Martin by Coldplay, and many other live broadcasts.
Moreover, hosting an Instagram Live Room with different artists and content creators can increase reach and engagement. In addition, it creates a virtual yet intimate atmosphere since viewers will be able to watch a performance or a concert in the comfort of their homes.
Instagram Live Rooms are an opportunity for you to hear directly from your customers. You can host a live broadcast and ask them what they like about your products. If you are a content creator, you can go live and discuss with your followers what content they want you to do next. Needless to say, Instagram Live Rooms are an endless opportunity.
Getting your audience’s feedback will help you find out what they really want. In addition, you will be able to make them feel that their opinion matters to you. Showing that you are valuing the opinions of your community will strengthen their loyalty and trust.
