Instagram has rapidly become one of the top social networks. The photo sharing service started back in 2010, and in less than six years has exploded. One of Instagram’s greatest appeals is the site’s celebrity appeal. Not all celebs are on the site, but it does have some big names, posting pictures and engaging fans. There are a few celebrities present on Instagram that have mastered the site, exploding in popularity and strengthening their brand.
Here we’ll take a look at four Insta-stars, and see how they’ve built their Instagram profiles.
When you have more followers than anyone else on Instagram, you’re doing something right. As if her huge following wasn’t enough, Taylor Swift recently took home 3 Grammy awards. She recently shared a few photos from the big night, which are blowing up on Instagram. A picture of swift holding her three awards in her hands (pictured above) has already reached over 2 million likes.
Prior to the Grammy awards, she was promoting her 1989 tour with huge success, sharing pictures and video clips from the tour. All of this generates buzz for her music, but also brings more interest to her apparel and fragrance brands.
Similar to Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez is also creating recent buzz from the Grammys. She received her first nomination, which was shared with Rakim Mayers for the song “Good for You.” Despite not winning the award, she generated some huge buzz on Instagram with pictures of her at the event, as well as some with Taylor Swift for combined celeb buzzing power.
In order to be really successful on Instagram, celebs often post a mix of personal and “business” photos. Selena Gomez has a perfect mix of these with a few pictures of her with friends between clips of her new music videos or product placement for Pantene.
She recently performed at the Super Bowl (again), where she announced a brand new world tour. Obviously, that’s going to create some buzz. Beyoncé has been recently posting a lot of pics from the half-time show to help fuel the fire as well. Although, it really isn’t hard to create buzz when you’ve got 60+ million followers, only short of Kim Kardashian West, Selena Gomez, and Taylor Swift.
Despite of who is ahead of her in overall followers, nobody is buzzing quite like Beyoncé fresh off of a huge promo for her career and tour.
One of the things that makes this celeb so successful on Instagram is her constant cameos with other big-name celebs. With Hollywood constantly coming onto the Ellen show, it’s no surprise her Instagram is filled with pictures of celebrities having fun together. Adele, Drake, Ryan Reynolds, and even Obama are just a few of the people you’ll find on Ellen’s Insta. All of this generates massive buzz around not just her Instagram, but her TV show and career as well.
Ellen may not have millions of likes on each photo, but she manages to snag hundreds of thousands while uploading multiple photos a day. She also always invites guests who are always buzzing themselves, which in turn helps her own growth.
Yes, these four celebs are famous in their own right and it's no real surprise that their Instagrams are hugely popular. But take note of their content: Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Beyoncé and Ellen DeGeneres all use their Instagram profiles to show their more candid side. This is the point of social media – to seem accessible to those who follow you. They market themselves, make jokes and silly faces, and bring us along as they live their celebrity lives. Instagram is like a window into others' lives, and these wildly successful celebrities understand that. You don't need to be Taylor Swift or Beyoncé to get noticed on Instagram. Be entertaining and you'll be sure to make a name for yourself in no time!
